Bitterly cold winds from the Arctic will send temperatures plummeting over the coming days.
Parts of the UK experienced extremely mild conditions this week, with highs of 17C, but that is set for a dramatic change into next week.
Led by the jet stream, cold air will surge down from the Arctic and across the North Sea, causing temperatures to drop by 6-8C.
In Newcastle, temperatures which were in double figures will soon feel like 2C, while on the hills of County Durham and Northumberland, snow showers are forecast with temperatures expected to feel more like -1C.
Weather forecaster Lucy Verasamy told Good Morning Britain viewers: “Temperatures are set to slide into the weekend and beyond, feeling so much colder next week. A shock to the system for all of us.”
Frost and snow on the hills is expected to accompany the latest change in the weather.
